Real Face Shape Detector

Grooming guide

Use the beard to change the outline, not hide it.

Beard length and outline can add weight to the chin, widen the sides, or keep the jaw visible. Start with the effect you want, then choose the shape that creates it.

8 options across all seven readings

Short boxed beard

A close beard with a defined cheek line and a softly squared chin.

Adds a little weight to the lower face without hiding the jaw. A balanced default for many proportions.

Suggested for: Oval · Round · Heart

Stubble

A few days of growth with a clean neckline.

Keeps the jaw visible while adding texture. It is low commitment and lets the underlying shape lead.

shorttexturelow maintenance

Suggested for: Oval · Diamond · Oblong · Square

Full rounded beard

More length at the chin with rounded sides and a tidy neckline.

The length below the chin can elongate a round face, while the rounded outline softens a square jaw.

Suggested for: Round · Square · Heart

Chin strap

A narrow line of hair following the jaw from sideburn to chin.

Emphasises the jaw outline. It can look sharp on diamond and oval faces but may over-accentuate a very wide jaw.

Suggested for: Diamond · Oval

Goatee

Focused growth around the chin and mouth with clean cheeks.

Adds visual length at the chin without widening the sides. Useful when you want a leaner lower-face read.

Suggested for: Round · Square · Triangle

Extended goatee

A goatee connected to a narrow jaw line, with the cheeks kept clean.

Creates a vertical line toward the chin while keeping the upper face open. Good for adding length without bulk.

lengthdefinedmoderate

Suggested for: Round · Oblong · Triangle

Full beard with fuller sides

A full beard kept wider at the cheeks and neatly tapered at the neckline.

The extra side width can balance a narrow forehead or prominent cheekbones.

Suggested for: Diamond · Heart · Triangle

Natural growth, clean neckline

Moderate all-over growth with a defined neckline and soft cheek edges.

A flexible option that adds texture without changing the silhouette much. Let the jaw shape stay readable.

Practical rules

A neckline is not a jawline.

A common grooming mistake is shaving the neckline too high, which removes the natural shadow under the jaw and makes the beard look pasted on. A better guide is usually one or two fingers above the Adam’s apple, following the curve where the head meets the neck.

Cheek lines work best when they follow the natural growth rather than a hard geometric line. If you want a sharper outline, trim gradually and check the result in daylight from a few angles.

Maintenance

The shape only holds with a routine.

Short beards need regular edging; longer beards need combing, washing, and a trim schedule. A beard that is patchy in one area may look more balanced with a shorter overall length rather than a shape that tries to compensate.

If you are unsure, start with stubble or a short boxed beard. It is easier to adjust the outline as it grows than to recover from an aggressive first trim.

Beard shape and the measurement report

The detector does not measure beard density or growth pattern. Its grooming suggestions are based on the visible face outline, so treat them as a direction rather than a personalized barbering plan. A good barber can adapt the outline to your growth, skin, and routine.
